Monitoring Antimicrobial Susceptibility in Food-borne Pathogens from Selected Species in Sri Lanka

Frequent monitoring of antimicrobial susceptibility in bacteria from any source (i.e. animal, food or human) is extremely valuable activity to ensure global public health. The acquired resistance among pathogenic bacteria may become evident clinically in events which fail to get the expected therapeutic response of an antimicrobial agent which had been successfully used for many years. In such situations disease condition may become incurable / nonresponsive to a usually effective antimicrobial agent.
